Probably your most important item as a massage therapist is your massage table. It needs to meet your needs for height, width, weight and length. It should be very comfortable for the patient and easily accessible for the therapist. The construction should offer durable materials for both the frame and the coverings. If you need a portable table it should be light but able to offer extras such as an height adjustment, arm rest or adjustable face cradle. A fixed table should offer as much and perhaps an adjustable backrest or foot extension. You are going to be spending a lot of time with your table so think over your choice very carefully.
The first thing you need to do is determine what your needs are with the table. Due to the philosophy behind many healing techniques wooden tables are becoming very popular. My experience is that portables get knocked around a lot, so if you can, go with a steel frame or strong alloy. If the patient is going to be face down for a long time you can't beat an adjustable face rest and as the arm rests are much dearer get one of those as well.

Electric massage tables make a huge difference to your therapy and practice. To start with they look more professional with many patients commenting on how good the table is, especially the comfort. They also allow you to change techniques effortlessly during an appointment. You can be using swedish massage at one height and then lower the table for trigger point therapy.

The next thing you will need is linen for you massage treatments. Other than colour there's is not a huge amount of choice. You can use sheets or towels, fitted or unfitted. The great advantage of sheets are they are light and much easier to store or dry but can be harder to get the oil out of. If using towels buy the long ones as you can cover the patient completely. It's much easier to have fitted linen on the table and face cradle, then put something over it again. Nothing looks worse to a patient than shoddy linen so update as often as required.
